Until now, many studies on tooth ablation using Er:YAG laser have dealt with various effect of laser applications related to water spray. pulse energy and pulse repetition rates, but It is apparent that irradiation time and method are also important variables
In addition to contact and non-contact irradiation, irradiation with motion within a short distance and irradiation in a fixed motion can affect ablation efficiency, Thus, this study evaluated tooth ablation rate of Er YAG laser related above four cases of irradiation Sectioned healthy extracted tooth specimens were divided into 12 subgroups within combination of four irradiation methods and pulse repetition rates of 5, 10, 20 Hz and each group consisted of 5 specimens, Pulse energy of 400 mJ was delivered to each specimen in conjugation with a water flow rate of 6 75 ml/rnin and irradiation was done for 3 seconds, Non-contact handpiece ablated more than contact handpiece and reciprocal irradiation Increased amount of tooth ablation compared to fixed irradiation, Based on the results of this study, It can be concluded that reciprocal irradiation is recommended to ablate the enamel efficiently in both cases of contact and non-contact type of handpiece as compared with fixed Irradiation In addition, It can be said that non-contact type irradiation is more effective to ablate enamel at the same irradiation conditions
